Why Inprimat?
Only the European network proposed in INPRIMAT can generate the critical mass of human and structural resources to promote molecular research into primate genomes by supplying the scientific community with an infrastructure that allows an easy access to a phylogenetically representative broad range of different types of primate genetic material.
Due to hunting and anthropogenic habitat modifications, about half of all primate species are considered to be of conservation concern with conservation categories ranging from "lower risk" to "critically endangered". INPRIMAT will help this task in the field of primate conservation by
avoiding repeated samplings and experiments related to primates

developing standardised molecular tools, such as genomic libraries, markers and probes with a potential to be applied in closely related species

avoiding invasive sampling procedures both by establishing immortalised cell lines and incorporating museum material

establishing robust, high-throughput tests for the SNP genotyping, and supporting the European primate research community in the implementation of these tests

designing a DNA microarray to support the control of the trade of primates
